  • OBITUARY:
Susan Roth Levine died peacefully in Atlanta, Georgia on October 7, 2017 at the age of 74. Susan is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Anne Silver; her daughter and son-in-law, Mindy and Michael Planer; her sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Steve Friedberg; her grandchildren, Justin and Eric Silver, and Austin and Dani Planer; her niece and nephew, Jenni and Brian Friedberg-Swenson; her nephew Andy Friedberg; her great nephews, Noah, Josh and Sam Swenson-Friedberg; and many cousins and friends who loved her so much. She is preceded in death by her husband, Alan D. Levine, her companion, Madison O’Kelley and her parents. Susan was born on September 24, 1943 in Birmingham, Alabama to Adolph and Esther Roth. She graduated from Shades Valley High School in 1961 and attended Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. During her time in New York, she met and married Stuart Silver, and they had their two children, Mindy and Paul. In the early 1970s, Susan moved back to Birmingham with her children. After moving to Birmingham, she worked as a cardiac catheterization technician at University of Alabama, Birmingham. She later worked in the marketing department for the Birmingham News, where she was featured in several photo layouts. She also volunteered many hours at the Birmingham Crisis Center, Temple Beth-El and as an elder companion. Susan’s children know her as a wonderful, loving and zany mother who was their biggest cheerleader and encouraged them to pursue their passion and goals. Susan had an eye for fashion, a taste for good food and wine and a great sense of humor. She lived life to the fullest. Susan was small in stature but giant in presence, and everyone who met her was charmed. Her friends and family will remember her warm laugh, her vivid imagination and her desire not to let challenges stand in her way. Sign on line guest book at www.edressler.com. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 12th, and the family will be sitting shiva on Sunday, October 15th. We were so sorry to learn of the passing of Susan. We have so many fond memories of our cousin Susan at many family gatherings and she always added so much crazy fun with her great personality and "dry wit." We have a photo of Susan hanging in our hall photo gallery in our home; Susan's photo will serve as a reminder of how much fun and love she added to our family. We want to extend our deepest sympathy to her children Mindy and Paul along with her sister Nancy. You are all in our prayers. Love - Steve and Jeanne Kallman

Dear Mindy, Nancy and Paul: I wanted to write and tell you how sorry we are about your mom and sister’s passing. It was wonderful to learn more about her life and passions in the obituary. She sounds like a lovely and gregarious mom and sister. We felt blessed to spend time with your family at Atlanta Hospice. In our 16 days there, your family brought some much needed comraderie and friendship to our family during a challenging time. My mom also died on Saturday. She will be buried in Washington, DC with my dad in November at St. John’s Lafayette Square. Sending warm wishes to you, your family and friends during this difficult time. With regards, Mittie Rooney
